    Employment of Minors

    Policy Statement

State, as well as Federal Law, regulates the employment of minors. No child under the age of 16 may be employed by the University. Employment of those between the ages of 16 and 18 years of age must comply with all applicable state and federal regulations surrounding the employment of minors.

    Reason for Policy

Adelphi University is committed to the safety of all individuals in its community. The University has particular concern for those who are potentially vulnerable, including minor children, who require special attention and protection. This Policy establishes guidelines for those in the University community who may work or interact with individuals under 18 years of age, with the goal of promoting the safety and wellbeing of minors.

Who Is Governed by this Policy

    Policy

The employment of persons under the age of 16 is prohibited. Employment of persons between the ages of 16 and 18 carries restrictions as to the length of shift and time of day. Because minors are restricted from performing certain types of work, and between certain hours, the terms and conditions of employment must be approved in advance by the Office of Human Resources.
