    Policy Statement                                                               

    Recognition shows employees they are valuable contributors to accomplishing Adelphi University’s mission. This policy establishes standards, considerations, and approval processes for employee recognition.


    Reason for Policy                                                                    

    To highlight employee contributions in furthering Adelphi’s mission.

    Policy

    Employee Service Award

    Policy:

    Adelphi annually honors employees who have 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 & 50 years of service with the University.

    Employees at the 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 years of service will also receive their choice of a gift, applicable to their years of service.

    Faculty Excellence Award

    Policy:

    Adelphi annually awards five (5) honorees for Excellence in Teaching (Tenured, Untenured and Part-time), one (1) award for Excellence in Faculty Service and one (1) award for Excellence in Faculty Scholarship & Creative Work.  

    The awards give appropriate recognition to members of the faculty who exemplify outstanding skill in their respective areas of professional work.

    President’s Award for Excellence in Service Policy:

    The President recognizes outstanding employee service by annually presenting awards to employees who have been nominated by co-workers or supervisors and selected by the President’s Award for Excellence in Service committee with an award of $2,500 and a plaque for distinguished service.

    Honorees and their guests, as well as the Adelphi Community, are invited to attend the Employee Recognition Celebration.

    Procedures

    The Office of Human Resources coordinates the annual Adelphi Recognition Celebration, typically in the spring semester.  Honorees and a guest, as well as the Adelphi Community, are invited to attend, free of charge.

    Procedure:

    The Provost puts out a call for nominations for the Faculty Excellence awards. All nomination letters, letters of recommendation and a portfolio by the candidates to support the nomination are reviewed by a faculty committee in each award category. The awards of $5,000 for full-time faculty and $2,000 for part-time faculty are presented with a plaque at the last full faculty meeting of the spring semester.  Additionally, Honorees and a guest, as well as the Adelphi Community, are invited to attend, free of charge.

    Procedure:

    The co-chairs of the President’s Award for Excellence in Service committee put out a call for letters of nomination and letters of recommendation which are reviewed by the committee.  Up to four nominees (two union and two nonunion) are then selected by the committee, based on the criteria and information in the letters, to receive the award.
