Section 6.0 Prior Approval

The responsibility for approval of the acquisition and use of toxic chemical agents rests with the Laboratory Supervisor. Some material including toxic compressed gases, radioactive materials, and certain recombinant DNA and biohazards require prior internal or external approval.

All personnel must obtain prior approval from the Chemical Hygiene Officer and Coordinator before proceeding with a laboratory task whenever:

  1. An extremely dangerous procedure or test is to be carried out.
  2. Extremely dangerous chemicals are to be used. Examples of such chemicals are:

    Hydrogen Cyanide
    Hydrogen Fluoride (anhydrous)
    Nickel Carbonyl
