Policy Statement

This policy establishes the standards, considerations, requirements and procedures for annual employee recognition to demonstrate that employee contributions and commitment are valued and vital to accomplishing Adelphi University’s mission.

Reason for Policy

To continue a long-standing tradition of annually highlighting and rewarding employee contributions to furthering Adelphi’s mission.

Policy

Employee Service Award Policy:

Adelphi annually celebrates our employees who have achieved 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 years of service with the University and awards them a token of appreciation for their loyal service.

Faculty Excellence Award:

The Provost annually recognizes faculty members nominated by themselves, fellow faculty members or students for excellence in teaching, service, scholarship, creative work, or teaching social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom. The awards include a monetary prize, certificate, and recognition in University publications during the year.

President’s Award for Excellence in Service:

The President, in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources, annually recognizes staff members nominated by faculty, fellow staff or administration for outstanding service in helping Adelphi University further its mission and advance strategic goals and core values. The award includes a monetary prize, a commemorative plaque, and campuswide recognition in University publications.

Recipients are not eligible for re-nomination again for five years. Nominees who are not selected can be nominated again.

Each year, a minimum of six (6) nominations for the President’s Award for Excellence must be received by the deadline in order for the awards to be presented in a given year.

President’s Award for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging:

The President, in collaboration with the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, annually recognizes a staff member who has been nominated by faculty, fellow staff or administration for demonstrating exceptional commitment to promoting and advancing the University’s core values of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. The award includes a monetary prize, a commemorative plaque, and campuswide recognition in University publications.

Recipients are not eligible for re-nomination again for five years. Nominees who are not selected can be nominated again.

Each year, a minimum of four (4) nominations for the President’s Award for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging must be received by the deadline in order for the awards to be presented in a given year.

Procedures

Employee Service Award

The Office of Human Resources coordinates the annual Employee Service Award process.  Honorees are announced in a campuswide publication and receive a token of appreciation from the University.

Faculty Excellence Award

Following an annual nomination period, a rotating faculty committee appointed by the Provost considers the nominations and selects the award recipients. Awardees are announced at the end of the spring semester.

President’s Awards for Excellence and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

Following an annual nomination period for the President’s Award for Excellence and the President’s Award for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, the respective selection committees consider the nominations and select the award recipients. Awardees are announced in a campuswide communication by the University President at the end of the Spring semester.

President’s Awards for Excellence and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

The President’s Awards for Excellence and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging have eligibility criteria and nomination requirements published on the Human Resources website at adelphi.edu/hr/the-presidents-award-for-excellence and, during open nomination periods, an online nomination form on the intranet.
